Agilent Capillary Packaging
A packaging system designed during my internship at Agilent Technologies — subsequently patented in the United States. The design accelerates the installation of capillaries in laboratory environments and achieves measurably high user satisfaction.
Capillary installation is a routine but exacting procedure in gas chromatography labs. Capillaries are delicate, precise components — any damage during handling means wasted time and compromised results. The existing packaging provided little guidance and too much risk. The challenge was to design a system that made the process faster, safer, and more intuitive from the moment the package is opened.
The solution guides the user through the installation sequence through the packaging form itself — the structure of the package becomes the instruction. Capillaries are held securely, oriented correctly, and released cleanly. The result: fewer errors, faster setup, and a first impression of the product that builds confidence before a single measurement is taken.
The design was subsequently filed for and granted a patent in the United States — recognising the novelty of the approach within an industry not typically associated with packaging innovation.
